Security arrangements for Muharram: re-deployment of forces in sensitive areas ordered

NWFP Caretaker Chief Minister Shams-ul-Mulk has directed for additional re-deployment of forces in the sensitive parts of the province to thwart any threat to the peace during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram adding that this time "Muharram falls in a very critical and extra ordinary situation that warrants extra ordinary preparedness" to tackle all sorts of threats to the peace in the province.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review arrangements for peaceful and secure Muharram-ul-Haram at his office on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Minister Information Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Chief Secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor, IGP Muhammad Sharif Wirk, Commandant FC Malik Naveed, Secretary Home, Secretary FATA, representative of 11 Corps, CCP Peshawar, DCOs, DPOs and other concerned officers of the law enforcing agencies.
The meeting thoroughly debated the preparedness and took a number of decisions for deployment and re-deployment of forces, intelligence gathering and intelligence sharing in the province and FATA.
The chief minister directed for effective, controlled and calculated moves to tackle any untoward incidence in the holy month adding that we should evolve a target oriented approach and should go whole hog to discourage the miscreants for disturbing law and order situation.
The retaining of peace is an uphill task that requires a lot of energy, full time engagements and large scale professional preparedness, for, we must go all out, he observed. He directed for effective intelligence gathering and intelligence sharing mechanism. However, this should be backed by people at large to secure a favourable environment.
The chief minister asked the quarter concerned to engage both the groups in Hangu and find out a reasonable solution to their grievances. However, the government must man the area effectively, he directed.
He directed to make functional the intelligence committees at district level. However, he formed sub-committees of all district intelligence committees to be headed by DCO who would post information vertically to the government. The sub-committees would have to transmit relevant information immediately in order to take effective measures for defusing any untoward incidence.
However, he also directed to enhance the safety nets to areas where peace is being threatened by groups of criminals. The people and the commuters must enjoy peace and the criminals should not erode the government's writ anywhere in the province. The chief minister directed to enhance security to prominent political and religious figures in the province.
He directed that the miscreants should not find a space to make entry to the volatile and sensitive parts of the province. The chief minister also directed to effectively involve the peace committees to get permanence in the peace during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram. The chief minister also advised to involve the stakeholders in peace during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
