Over 52,000 vehicles challaned in 2007

District Traffic Police fined 52,030 vehicles in the year 2007 and recovered millions of rupees for traffic violators. DSP traffic disclosed that 15,085 drivers were sent to lock-up and their vehicles impounded, while 1,226 drivers were sent to prison for serious violations and their licences were either suspended or cancelled.
The route permits of about a hundred public transport vehicles were also suspended during the one year period.
