10 Jan, 2008

Caretaker Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney has requested the chief election commissioner (CEC), former justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq to take strict notice of the advertisement by a political party, which, he said, was aimed at spreading hate and bias, especially against Sindhi people.
Talking to CEC here on Wednesday the minister said that collective efforts were needed to contain the spectre of bias attitude. The minister drew CEC's attention towards an advertisement by a political party, which aimed at spreading hate and bias, especially against Sindhi people.
He stressed upon all the political parties to refrain from issuing such statements, which smack of sowing seeds of contention among the provinces. He requested the CEC to take strict notice of these advertisements and statements spreading hatred among residents of all provinces.
He said democratic process always requires a complete honour for the basic human rights and without incorporating these essentials in the democratic system, it will remain inadequate to achieve the desired results. He said true democracy lies in fostering respect for each other's views. Both discussed the measures for holding free and fair elections in the country. Qazi Farooq assured him that ECP would take appropriate legal action against the publication of such advertisements.
