Jamaat-i-Islami slams US media for targeting Pakistan

13 Jan, 2008

The Senator, Professor Khurshid Ahmad, Vice Chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan has strongly condemned the sustained and co-ordinate efforts of the US presidential candidates, White House spokespersons and the US media for targeting Pakistan and seemingly paving the way for some scandalous action with our sovereign territory.
According to Ahmad it is the flawed and submissive policies of President Pervez Musharraf that have encouraged the American warlords to hatch such heinous plans. They are openly threatening Pakistan. "The verbal onslaught is a virtual attack on our sovereignty and honour," he emphasised.
He stressed that Pakistani nation must rise to face this challenge and protect its sovereignty and nuclear assets. This, he said, is no longer possible with Musharraf in power. The only option for the nation, according to Ahmed is to establish a government of national consensus and holding of fresh elections immediately that are truly free, fair and transparent, organised through an election commission appointed by mutual consultation.
Further, the JI leader said that elections should be credible world over and acceptable to the whole nation that cannot be held under the present arrangements. Our sovereignty can be safeguarded only by restoration of true democracy and revival of the constitution and judiciary as it was on 2nd November 2007.
Furthermore, he called all political parties to rise united and go for an option that can really ensure true democracy and stability in Pakistan instead of participating in the elections under Musharraf. "Pervez Musharraf is the problem for the nation and we should ensure that he resigns and Pakistan is survived with the rule of law, " he concluded.
