Country faces gas shortfall of 600 million cubic feet daily: SNGPL

Acting General Manager, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Muhammad Akram has said that the company was facing shortage of 600 million cubic feet gas daily in face of the country's total demand of 2400 million cubic feet daily.
Addressing members of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) he said that the total gas production at present was only 1800 million cubic feet daily, due to which the company has been compelled to carrying out load management to overcome the shortage.
During winter season the gas consumption increase in the country, which has resulted in current crisis, he added.
Muhammad Akram said that he was aware of the problems being faced by the local industrialists and domestic consumers and efforts were being made to overcome the crisis. He said that SNGPL would decide the schedule of gas load management in consultations with the business community especially FCCI.
The SNGPL official announced to arrange a meeting of local industrialists with the Managing Director SNGPL on January 14 (Monday) to solve the problems and remove the misunderstanding.
Earlier, President FCCI, Khuwaja Asim Khurshid said that besides the crisis of power in the country, the gas crisis has also aggravated, owing to which all the sectors including Sizing, Hosiery, Textile Processing, Ghee Mills, Soap Manufacturing Units, Iron & Foundry, Powerlooms and Garment Factories were suffering.
