Some 1,200 male and female students admitted to different disciplines of engineering in Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) were provided the vision and academic guidance at an "orientation ceremony" held here on Monday prior to start of regular classes.
Addressing the ceremony, SSUET Chancellor and President Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association, Engr Z.A. Nizami gave a broad outline of the vision behind the establishment of this University.
He pointed out that this university was named after great reformer and educationist Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who had refused establishment of any educational institution after his name during his lifetime but had consented to if anyone established an institution after his death and named after him.
Nizami said that Aligarh University was an institution for which no person less than founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah had profound respect and love.
He said that this University's worldwide reputation could be judged from the fact that its website had over half a million hits since its establishment. SSUET chancellor informed that this university, which had Pakistan's biggest computer lab and best faculty, had academic agreements with 18 renowned universities of United States and United Kindom.
He told the new entrants that students graduating from here did not find any problem in having a job as their CVs were sent to some 3,600 employers nation-wide and score of its graduates were today serving world-wide on good positions.
Nizami said that one significant feature of SSUET was that no political activity took place here as all the political parties had given their commitment in this regard.
He said the University got lot of financial help and assistance which was passed on to the deserving students and the fact was that no student was left without admission because of his financial constraints.
Earlier, former Acting Vice Chancellor and General Secretary Aligarh Musliim University Old Boys Association, Engr Zakkir Ali Khan in his intellectual discourse told the students that being students of this university, they were the real torch-bearer of the mission that had been undertaken by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
