15 Jan, 2008

The University of Karachi has prepared a plan to reduce the teacher-student ratio at the institution to 1:30 by the year 2015. This was stated by the Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui.
He said that at present this very ratio at Karachi University is 1:46 whereas according to the recommendation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) this ratio should be 1:20. The Vice-Chancellor was of the view that this target cannot be achieved at once. He said that a 'vision 2015' has been prepared for the purpose and by hiring the faculty members the teachers students ratio would be gradually reduced to 1:30 within that period.
Professor Pirzada pointed out that stress is being laid on the faculty as well as infrastructure development at the University of Karachi. He said that the services of the visiting faculty would also be hired. The video conferences, lectures and seminars etc would also be organised. The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the significance of the quality research.
