The government is committed to hold free, fair and peaceful elections, said Minister for Tourism and Youth Affairs Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Tuesday.
Talking to a group of youth from Peshawar, he said government is sincere in removing the reservations of political parties regarding the transparency of the elections.
He condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Lahore and Karachi and said some hidden elements were involved in such heinous acts aimed at destabilising the country and also spoil the atmosphere for the elections.
President Pervez Musharraf has firmly said that elections would be held on time and there was no question of rigging in the electoral process, he added.
"Strict action should be taken against the people involved in riots in order to mar the atmosphere for the upcoming polls," the minister said.
Pakistan is going through very hard time and youth can play an important role to dismantle such elements involved in subversive activities, he added.
