Lawyers will go on a strike on Thursday (tomorrow) and also conduct protest demonstration on the murder of senior bar member and former president of Haroonabad bar, Muhammad Ekhlaq Awan. Council Vice-Chairman Tariq Javed Warriach said this while talking to bar members.
He told the bar to hold protest meetings and pass resolutions against the government for failing to maintain law and order in the province. He added that the bar members would also boycott the court proceedings. The Punjab Bar Council (PBC) had decided after its general body met on January 8.
Warriach told reporters that the government had failed to protect the lives of innocent people and that the lawyers were fighting for the rule of law and the judiciary independence.
