Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has directed the concerned authorities to make more effective efforts to maintain conducive law and order situation in the province.
In this regard, he said, besides government's measures, awareness be created among the people and their participation in the efforts at government level be ensured.
He was chairing a high level meeting at Governor House in which law and order situation came under review. The meeting was attended by caretaker Home Minister Brigadier Akhtar Zamin (Retd), IG Police Azhar Farooqui and other officials. The Governor pointed out that the country, at present, is faced with multifaceted challenges.
"We have to have peaceful environment during Muharram, transparent and conducive conditions for elections and also continue the journey of peace and development," he emphasised. He said that anti-state and terrorist elements are misleading the people through extremism and so-called religious slogans and are involved in incidents of terrorism and later in creating chaos and fear.
He pointed out that besides professional and administrative measures by the law and order related organisations, there is an essential need to create awareness among people regarding terrorism at all levels.
He called for educating people regarding all kinds of emergency situations and to meet with the same. He said enemies of peace and development are unaware of the value of innocent human lives and their real target is the country and its people.
Ibad directed that security arrangements should be made at every level with the cooperation of people so that they could keep watch on suspects and their activities and play their role during any emergent situation.
Having an appraisal about arrangements made for peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, he asked the authorities to work in coordination with the concerned organisations and leaders. The Governor stressed on keeping the intelligence network functional throughout the province with a stronger nexus between various organisations.
He directed that the culprits involved in Quaidabad bomb blast should be brought before justice at the earliest and best possible capabilities be used for this purpose.
Earlier the Home Minister and IGP apprised the Governor about details of Monday bomb blast and the arrangements made for Muharram.
