Raw sugar futures slumped early Wednesday on speculative fund sales as the market took its cue from a sell-off in other commodity markets, brokers said. ICE Futures electronic March sugar contract was down 0.15 cent at 11.32 cents per lb at 9:15 am EST (1415 GMT), moving between 11.30 and 11.47 cents.
Trading volume Wednesday in the electronic March sugar contract was at 14,922 lots at 9:16 am. Open-outcry volume traded in the sugar market Tuesday was 7,642 lots and screen trade was 94,976 lots, according to exchange data.
