Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) spokesperson has clarified that the numerous complaints lodged by the public on Monday evening, regarding pungent odour gas in North Nazimabad and North Karachi, was not due to leakage of natural gas.
On receipt of complaint, emergency teams were rushed to the affected area and the pipeline systems were thoroughly checked and found to be undamaged and working normally.
Spokesperson further stated that SSGC adheres to safety policies and procedures and the company is mindful of its obligations to the public and ensures implementation of laid down safety procedures. Leakage of gas is dangerous and is treated as an emergency.
He informed the media that according to the engineers, who visited the area, the bad odour was due to chemical waste of some factory, which was probably discharged/dumped in the Gujjar Nullah, which runs through the backyard of North Nazimabad and North Karachi.-PR
