Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the government to immediately announce a clear policy for potato besides making arrangements to meet the water shortage; otherwise it would push farmers in to marsh of poverty.
This was announced by the KBP Central President Sardar Zafar Hussein while speaking to various gatherings of farmers at Faisalabad, Jhang and other areas in connection with KBP movement of 'Save Farmers-Save Country', disclosed a spokesman of KBP here on Wednesday.
He said KBP would stage a countrywide protest movement on February 10 to register its reservations with the government. He also said fertilisers were being sold in black markets while electricity load shedding, canal closure and severe cold spell have broken the spine of the farmer. Severe cold spell was causing damage to sugarcane, maize, vegetable, fodder and potato crops. He urged the government to immediately take steps for saving these crops otherwise it would have a negative impact on agricultural economy.
