Badin growers reject recovery relief package

24 Jan, 2008

The growers of Badin district have not welcomed the recovery relief package announced by the President of Pakistan for Tharparkar, Umerkot and Badin districts under which it was decided to write off loans outstanding against growers up to Rs 100,000 as on 30 April 2007 and overdue amount is not paid as yet.
An emergency meeting of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture Badin chapter held with its president Muhammad Khan Sarejo in the chair, discussed the package and expressed reservations that former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had issued order to write off original loan up to Rs 200,000 and with interest up to Rs 500,000 but deplored that Zarai Tarqiati Bank did not obey that order and now has come with new order said to be issued by President of Pakistan to write off loans to extent of Rs 100,000 only.
The meeting called recent package as ridiculous and said they do not welcome it.
The meeting discussed the alternate including moving the court for implementation of agriculture package awarded by former PM Shaukat Aziz or to come out on roads or to wait for the next government after elections and deferred the matter for meeting of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture which is due to meet in Hyderabad on Friday next. The meeting of Badin chapter was attended by vice president Muhammad Hassan Dal, Haji Muhammad Thebo, Abdul Karim Junejo and other growers.
