Disconnection of gas supply to factory: chief engineer SNGPL, Sargodha issued notices

26 Jan, 2008

The Lahore High Court has issued notices to chief engineer Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Sargodha for February 12 and directed him to justify disconnection of gas supply to Criston Lion Chemical Factory.
The court had appointed the commission while hearing suo motu proceedings initiated on the deaths of several people and cattle in Chenab Nagar district Jhang due to allegedly drinking of poisonous water. The court remarked that if the disconnection was found discriminatory, legal action would be taken against the responsible officials of the SNGPL.
The judge had taken the notice on an appeal of Colonel Shafqat Baloch (Retd), Zafar Ali and others. The applicants had alleged that some months ago, the Criston Lion Chemical Factory had started draining out poisonous wastewater in the river due to which several people and cattle had died.
They said many diseases had erupted due to water pollution. They requested the court to restrain the factory owner from draining the poisonous water in the river and take legal action against him for depriving the people of clean drinking water. The Criston Lion Chemical Factory owner submitted that the SNGPL had disconnected their gas supply discriminately.
