Pakistan Peoples Party's election monitoring cell Karachi condemned the use of official resources for the government-backed candidates, transfers of government officials and registration of cases against PPP workers, and demanded immediate withdrawal of these cases.
The election monitoring cell, met at Peoples Secretariat on Saturday to review the ongoing election campaign. The meeting chaired by divisional president PPP Karachi, Rashid Hussain Rabbani was attended by members of the cell including Waqar Mehdi, Rafique Engineer, Ameer Haider Kazmi, Aafaq Shahid, Farzana Baloch, Farid Ansari, Mirza Maqbool, Khalil Qureshi, Masroor Ahsan, Habibuddin Junaidi, Ghulam Habib Jadoon, Umar Jutt, Yousaf Baloch and Qasim Baloch. All five PPP district presidents of Karachi presented electioneering related reports of their respective districts in the meeting.
The meeting strongly criticised the recent transfers of officials made by Sindh government, saying it is violation of Election Commission's orders. The meeting also said that thousands of PPP activists are being implicated in false cases in all five districts of Karachi, terming it as pre-poll rigging.
The meeting also expressed concern over Election Commission's behaviour of not taking notice of polls related complaints lodged by PPP. The meeting said that anti-PPP elements are tearing PPP banners and posters and harassing the party workers but Election Commission is keeping mum over the issue that makes its claim doubtful to hold elections free and fair.
The meeting decided that a delegation comprising of monitoring cell members would meet Provincial Election Commissioner and CCPO Karachi to apprise them in writing about 'harassing movement' against PPP workers.
