The Governor, North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Owais Ahmed Ghani has said that the government is seriously considering to construct a new road between Peshawar and Kohat to present an additional link to the southern part of the province and decision to this effect will be made shortly.
A 25-member delegation led by the President, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Haji Muhammad Asif called on the Governor on Sunday. Talking to the delegation, Ghani pointed out that it was an earnest desire of the government to generate maximum economic activities, provide job opportunities to youth and bring prosperity in the life of the people.
"The role of investors in this connection is highly important and the government will fully facilitate them and explore ways and means to provide location-advantage for attracting investment in the industry in NWFP", he added.
Referring to the law and order problems in certain areas, the Governor said the government has adopted a farsighted and a long-term sustainable approach in the best interest of the people and the country in this regard will ensure sustainable peace and normalcy in the respective areas. .
He also stressed that the delegation, being the representative of highly aware segment of the society, should create public awareness in this connection.
Talking about the increasing incidents of kidnapping for ransom, he said that the government was pondering to adopt strict measures including the institution of death penalty for the crime.
Ghani said that the industrialists are mainly suffering because of low voltage of electricity and decrease in the pressure of natural gas and blamed weather conditions responsible for the crisis in energy resources. He however, assured that the government is following effective strategies to ease the situation and referred to the Malakand Hydel Power Project-III that would help overcoming the issue.
The Governor also assured to make serious efforts to help the trading community in getting proper dry port within the vicinity of Peshawar.
