Fire fighting arrangements: Kamal orders survey of buildings

City Nazim Karachi, has decided to take action against owners of all such buildings, commercial complexes, markets and factories who have not installed internal fire fighting system and extinguishers.
Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has directed the Chief Controller of Buildings, Rauf Akhtar Farooqui to immediately set up a team of senior and capable officers to carry out an early survey of city's all the buildings and find out whether they have had internal fire fighting system and fire extinguishers installation or not.
After the survey, he directed, owners of all such buildings be issued notices with the directives to instal internal fire fighting system so that timely action could be taken to contain fire before its spreads and may facilitate the measures to contain fire in an emergency situation and thus save human and material losses.
Nazim Karachi directed that if the owners of buildings does not comply with the directives, action would be taken against them. He asked the KBCA committee to determine the punishment and amount of fine for such owners.However, he said that the sewerage and water supply system of such buildings which defy the installation of fire fighting equipment immediately, can be disconnected.
This committee, he said, will also inspect the condition of cleanliness and facelift of these buildings and issue directives to their owners in this regard so that the city's beauty could be improved.
Mustafa Kamal said it has been observed that owners of high-rise buildings have not installed fire fighting equipment and system and whenever a fire incident occurs, the fire brigade department points out this thing. But, he directed, now on all such reports and inquiry should be carried out in respect of all buildings and all those safety measures must be taken as per international standards.
