Well done

28 Jan, 2008

The Ashura processions all around the country were certainly the most dangerous places on earth, but thankfully the day passed without any trouble at all. I attended the whole juloos in Karachi that was taken out from Nishtar Park and ended at Kharadar.
The reason why the day passed off without any trouble is because the law enforcement agencies and the volunteers were up to the task and had done an excellent job of coordinating the security.
Thousands of police and rangers were part of the Karachi Ashura procession security effort along with thousands of volunteers. All entry and exit points were properly guarded and a thorough multi level body search was carried out on all entry points. Air surveillance was also carried out to ensure the safety of the mourners. This model is certainly an improvement over previous years' arrangements and it will be very useful for such events in the future.
