Massive police drive against fireworks dealers

Rawalpindi Police Monday launched a massive operation against the dealers of fireworks and arrested ten including six owners of big fireworks godowns and confiscated the explosive fireworks of over Rs 600,000 during the last 24 hours.
The operation was launched on the instructions of City Police Officer Rawalpindi Saud Aziz against the dealers of fireworks, said SSP (Operations) Yaseen Farooq while talking to reporters. SHOs of different Police Stations of Rawalpindi were also present on the occasion.
Yaseen Farooq said that after the fire incident of Gunjmandi police have focused its attention towards the illicit warehouses of fireworks situated in the densely populated areas of the city.
"Those who were apprehended include Zaman, Ismail, Nawaz and Buksh Tabraiz and cases have been registered against Zakir, Majid, Ali Akhtar, Adil and Pervez", the SSP added.
He said the operation would be carried out against the dealers, suppliers and manufacturers of fireworks. He told the journalists that the police has recovered 200 bags containing 60 maunds of different types of explosive substance including imported and indigenous firecrackers that cost more than Rs 0.6 million. Yaseen Farooq said that the operation would continue till complete eradication of the fireworks stores from Rawalpindi.
