Green rickshaw scheme gains momentum

Green rickshaw scheme has gained momentum in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district. As many as 750 rickshaws, under the scheme would be given to the applicants on subsidised price in Sialkot district.
The introduction of green rickshaw scheme in this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry of the country would not only help in reduction of pollution load but also generate employment opportunities for the jobless persons.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that provincial government has already set up a "Green Fund" with an amount of Rs one billion for extending loan facilities to the interested persons for undertaking projects pertaining to environment, conversion of rickshaws into CNG and for the purchase of CNG buses in the Punjab.
Under the programme, government will encourage the projects pertaining to environment and interested persons could obtain loan facility for initiating projects, converting rickshaws into CNG and for the purchase CNG buses in the Punjab. The two stroke rickshaws would be converted into CNG by the end of current year in Punjab, sources added.
