Southern Punjab lawyers organise protest rallies

More than 8,000 lawyers of southern Punjab on Monday organised protest rallies and hunger strike camps were set-up in front of bar rooms in Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Jhang, Bhakkar, Layyah, Vehari, Sahiwal, Khanewal and Lodhran.
The protesting lawyers were demanding the restoration of the judiciary and release of detained judges and lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan.
Besides lawyers, the rallies were participated by students, civil society members, doctors, teachers and workers of different political parties. Carrying placards and banners, they were raising slogans in favour of deposed judges.
District Bar Association President Najaf Ali Chavan, speaking on the occasion, said that the restoration of deposed judges was the only solution to the present crises faced by the country. He said that Pakistan was the only country where its chief justice was seeking justice.
