Bernd Meyhoefer, Technical Advisor of the German Technical Cooperation Agency "GTZ" appreciated the cooperation and excellent work done by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) under Renewable Energy Efficiency Project (REE).
Meyhoefer was expressing his views today at a meeting held in Smeda with its chairman Shahid Rashid in the chair. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing activities of REE programme and introduced Bernd Meyhoefer as a new Technical Advisor, who has recently replaced Tobias Becker, the former Advisor of GTZ.
Chief Executive Officer Smeda, Shahid Rashid briefed about the existing energy scenario of Pakistan and highlighted the importance of energy conservation in industrial sector. The meeting developed a consensus that using energy more efficiently and effectively was an utmost need of the time.
General Manager Smeda, Iqbal A Kidwai told that fortunately, energy efficiency and conservation procedures were the lowest cost options for meeting energy needs coupled with many other environmental, economic and social benefits.
Fayyaz Riaz, Deputy General Manager, Smeda informed that recent work done by a joint team of Smeda and GTZ had created a number of success stories under this programme. This collaboration has also introduced a system for Energy Audit in the Textile Sector.
Technical Advisor Bernd Meyhoefer appreciated the cooperation and excellent work done by Smeda under REE project. He also shared his experience in energy conservation and cleaner production in Asian countries. He assured complete assistance on behalf of GTZ and his own personal capacity for forthcoming projects of REE programme and hoped Smeda will be one of the focal partner agencies in the execution phase of new projects.
