The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has planned to construct terminal for heavy construction machinery at Taiser town with the aim to facilitate transportation and eradication of illegal termini.
Sources in Transport department told Business Recorder here on Thursday that due to mushroom increase in illegal termini at Sohrab Goth towards new vegetable market, CDGK was considering to reserve a land for heavy construction vehicles including cranks, bulldozers, etc with all modern amenities aimed to eradicate encroached termini.
They said that enormous construction machinery and dump trucks were parked on both sides of service roads, illegally at Sohrab Goth towards new vegetable market, which causes traffic jams and road accidents, recurrently.
"Superhighway was a major gateway to access Karachi and around 80 percent of transportation from Karachi was being done through this highway route," they said.
Due to illegal construction machinery and dump trucks termini at superhighway, thousand of passenger vehicles and carriages are suffered by traffic jams causing to increase road crimes during traffic jams, they added.
Therefore, CDGK has chalked out a plan to build proper and secure infrastructure at Taiser town for them with all basic requirements, which will help to minimise the radio of road crime besides discouraging illegal termini owners to run businesses illegally, they said.
City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal has decided to build terminal for them and agreed to allocate an acre area, initially for heavy construction machinery terminal at Taiser town in a meeting with EDO Revenue and EDO Transport, sources revealed.
To a question, they said that CDGK allocated land for terminal far from residential area and the construction of the terminal would not be commenced unless contractor of terminal would not assure to CDGK that terminal would not create any problem for the residents of Taiser town.
They cited that these developments could not bear the fruits alone until Traffic Police would not play its vital role to make sure the rigorous enforcement of traffic rules and regulations without any influential discrimination. People should also comply with the traffic laws as most of traffic problems occurred owing to their carelessness.
This move may help the authorities to minimise the transport problem besides providing lucrative opportunities to illegal termini owners and facilitate them to run their business activities at secure and legal workplace.
