RCCI elections challenged in LHC

Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench Friday asked the Director General Trade Organisations to submit membership record of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). The single bench of Lahore High Court headed by Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, resumed hearing of the petition filed by Business Group of the RCCI, challenging the elections of the Chamber.
The court directed the Director General of the Trade Organisations, Ministry of Commerce to appear in the court and submit record of the membership of the chamber. The learned judge has also directed the Deputy Prosecutor General to appear in the court along with record of the petition.
The Business Group of the RCCI has challenged the elections of the Chamber by raising objections on the fake membership of the chamber. The group has levelled allegations against Mian Pervaiz Aslam group of making more than 800 fake members to rig the elections.
The elections were scheduled on December 13, 2007, but the Business Group boycotted the elections. But the Election Committee of the Chamber declared 13 members from Mian Pervaiz Aslam group out of 24-member executive committee of the chamber successful unopposed and on December 31, the 24-member Executive Committee elected Abdul Rauf Chaudhry as its president.
