Governor Punjab Khalid Maqbool visited Punjab University School of Biological Sciences and Institute of Chemical and Engineering Technology here on Thursday, to inquire from students about facilities and problems. During his visit he also reviewed various laboratories and development work of the university.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Mujahid Mansoori and Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan were also with him. In the DNA forensic lab of School of Biological Sciences, Professor Dr Muhammad Akhtar, Dr Javed Iqbal and Dr Zahoor briefed the governor about the equipment installed in the lab and its functioning.
The governor directed to establish a workshop in the university for repairing various instruments of laboratories so that maximum benefit could be taken out of them.
On the occasion Dr Waheed Akhtar and Ph.D students, Gazanfar and Sadia briefed the governor about the working on bio-chemical markers of various diseases, adding that their research would benefit the patients of breast cancer, lungs cancer and other diseases.
The director of school said that 78 Ph.D students were studying in their school and they were using latest technology in various bio experiments. During the visit to Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, in the presence of vice-chancellor Mujahid Kamran and Dean faculty Professor Dr Arif Butt and other teachers the governor held a sort of "open court" of the students and asked about their problems.
To a student's question the chancellor directed the vice-chancellor to grant Bait-ul-Maal scholarship to the students of evening classes. The governor said that federal government and the Punjab government were investing a lot of funds for the upgradation of public sector universities, especially, Punjab University.
Later, he visited the institute polymer research lab and new lecture rooms. Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt and Dr Javed briefed the governor about the upgradation of the institute and demanded for more funds upon which the governor and the vice-chancellor assured them to consider their demands.
