President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday administered oath of office to Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam as Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court. The ceremony was attended by Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and other Judges of the Supreme Court and members of the Cabinet. The court will comprise eight Judges, besides the
Chief Justice, and is expected to be operational within this month, meeting a longstanding demand of the people and lawyers of Islamabad Capital Territory. So far, most of the cases of the area were dealt by Rawalpindi Bench of Lahore High Court.
The Islamabad High Court will function with similar powers and jurisdiction as other High Courts in the country and would ease their work load. Secretary, Law, Justice Mohammad Raza Khan told APP that initially the Court would function at the site of the new Judicial Complex, and the rest of the eight Judges would be appointed in consultation with the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court and Chief Justice of Pakistan.
