Supreme Court disposes of 38 cases in a single day

Four benches of the apex Court Monday heard the cases fixed before the court at Islamabad and one bench heard the cases fixed before it at Lahore and disposed of 38 cases. An official of the Supreme Court told Business Recorder that despite boycott announced by the Pakistan Bar Council and Bar Associations, the hearing of cases in apex court was normal.
However the cases fixed before Bench No IV consisting of Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Zia Perwez on 11.02 2008 were cancelled due to non-availability of the said bench.
Incharge Fixture of cases said that cases fixed before Bench No V comprising Justice Mohammad Moosa K Leghari and Justice Mian Hamid Farooq on 12.02.2008 and 13.02.2008 have also been cancelled due to non-availability of the said bench.
Deputy Registrar (Judicial) Mohammad Bashir Janjua, told that advocate A K Dogar appeared to seek adjournment in his case at Lahore while Chaudhry M Anwar Ghumman, Mehmoodul Islam, Malik Abdul Wahid, Arshad Ali Chauhan, Munir Ahmed Bhatti, ASCs, Ms Yasmin Sehgal and Irshad Hussain Bhatti, DPGs appeared at Lahore to argue their cases. Following advocates of the Supreme Court appeared at the Principal Seat Islamabad.
