13 Feb, 2008

Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Mian Shafqat Ali has said steps are underway to receive water bills from private educational institutions on domestic tariff and a summary will be sent soon to the chief minister to approve it.
He told a delegation of the All Pakistan Private Schools Welfare Association headed by its President, Syed Zulqarnain Shah, on Tuesday that said private educational institutions were contributing a lot to enhance the literacy rate and the government was helping them.
"The government is well aware of the problems of the private educational institutions and assured that high officials of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) would be directed to submit complete detail of receipts of commercialisation fee along with suggestion to lessen or waive off that fee," he added.
Mian Shafqat Ali assured the delegation that their problems would be resolved. Association President Syed Zulqarnain Shah then briefed the minister about the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and Sui Gas departments already charging their bills on domestic tariff from the private educational institutions.
He said the Water and Sanitation Authority should also charge water bills on domestic tariff and that a majority of private educational institutions were charging fees and rendering their services in rented buildings and as such not in a position to pay such heavy taxes.
