President satisfied with poll security arrangements

President Pervez Musharraf Saturday expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made by Pakistan Army to ensure security during the February 18 general elections.
The President expressed his satisfaction during his meeting with the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who called on him here at the Camp Office and gave a comprehensive briefing on the security arrangements made by Pakistan Army for the general elections.
The COAS informed the President that the Army has been deployed in aid to civil authority and all necessary security arrangements have been put in place and co-ordinated with the civilian authorities so that any attempt to disrupt peace and security during the elections can be deterred and dealt with. The President reiterated that the Government was committed to hold free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections.
He said that although not a part of the election process, the Pakistan Army had a vital role to assist the civil administration to ensure security during the elections process, so that the voters are able to exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives in a peaceful manner without any disruptions.
