1,024 examined, 94 operated in free eye camp

As many as 1,024 ophthalmic patients were examined and 94 provided surgery during a weeklong free eye camp held at village Lasharian, some 40 kilometres off here. Social Welfare Society Lasharian in collaboration with the Society for Prevention and Cure of Blindness, Karachi, had arranged the ninth annual free eye camp in the remote area of the district.
All patients were examined free of charge and provided free medicines. Free surgery was also conducted on operable cases with free lenses as needed, as per previous tradition. Dr Tahir Mahmood Khan, eye specialist/surgeon, Mayo Hospital Lahore, conducted surgery at the camp, while Dr Munir Ahmed, eye specialist and in-charge of Basic Health Unit 1-4/L examined the outdoor patients at the camp.
