Government committed to improve human rights situation: Soomro

Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro on Thursday said the government would continue improving human rights situation in the country, while necessary reforms had already been initiated at various levels.
Talking to caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney at PM Secretariat, the Prime Minister asked ministry to prepare comprehensive proposals regarding jail reforms. The Prime Minister said tangible steps are needed to be taken at the earliest to ensure schooling and proper upbringing of juvenile delinquents and the children who accompany their mothers in jails.
The Prime Minister said the Ministry of Human Rights should co-ordinate with all concerned ministries and provincial departments to control human trafficking.
Burney requested Prime Minister for the remission of death sentence of Kashmir Singh on humanitarian grounds, been imprisoned in a Pakistani jail for more than 30 years. He briefed Prime Minister of the draft legislation on setting up of National Commission for Human Rights, which had been approved in principle by the federal cabinet during its last meeting.
