Lawyers on Thursday boycotted courts and stopped their colleagues from attending the court proceedings. Lawyers also staged a rally on the Mall chanting slogans against President Pervez Musharraf, the government and the judges and set up hunger-strike camp.
Sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and two High Court judges also made speeches. Lahore High Court and Lahore Bar Association members, after their general body meetings, gathered outside the Lahore High Court main gate and later disbursed peacefully.
Acting Bar President Fardoos Butt and Secretary Sarfraz Cheema and others including Hamid Khan, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari and Abdur Rashid Qureshi said lawyers were fighting for the rule of law and the judiciary and that they would continue their struggle in the future.
