Dusty westerly winds cause hazy weather in city

23 Feb, 2008

Dusty winds blew from the western parts of the country created haze in the city from early Friday morning, which caused severe breathing problems to people throughout day. The pressure gradient, which developed in Balochistan and upper Sindh, created dust storm that travelled into Karachi with winds, according to the officials of meteorological department.
They said that atmosphere may remain hazy during next 12 to 24 hours, however rains which had been forecasted in Sindh, Balochistan and Kashmir with thunderstorm could end it earlier. These are not clouds but a thick layer of dust emerged on the sky and is near to the earth surface, they elaborated.
The atmosphere may become clear by tomorrow morning and humidity in the air is expected to increase from the present level to normal as soon as the low pressure would lose intensity, they said. They added that rains with thunderstorm were expected to follow the dust storm, however there were no immediate chances of rainfall in the city.
