United Kingdom diplomats called on PPP leader Nafees Siddiqui on Friday and discussed matters relating to elections, restoration of democracy and strategy to woo like-minded smaller parties to participate in the main stream political activities.
British Deputy High Commissioner Robert Gibson and deputy head of mission Simon Williams met Nafees at the latter's residence. The diplomats were briefed on the extent of fairness of the elections and reported rigging at some polling stations.
Party position regarding cooperation with like-minded political parties and independent candidates dominated the discussion. The diplomats took interest in the discussion as the emerging political situation has posed questions about Pakistan's role in the continuing fight against terrorism and extremism. Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani were also present in the meeting.
