Lawyers boycott courts against police baton charge

The lawyers community of Southern Punjab stayed away from court proceedings on Saturday to protest police's highhandedness against lawyers in Karachi and Islamabad.
Lawyers in Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan and other parts of the southern Punjab completely boycotted courts' proceeding and hoisted black flags at the bar rooms as a mark of protest against the baton charging and tear gasing of lawyers in Karachi and Islamabad by police, President District Bar Multan Najaz Ali Chauhan said.
He further said that High Court Bar Multan has also decided to observe complete boycott of High Court till March 09 and daily hour-long token boycott of the lower courts except Thursday.
The lawyers will hold protest demonstrations on Thursday. President High Court Bar Habib-ullah Shakir backed the Long March of the lawyers on March 09 announced by President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and demanded restoration of the deposed judges and constitution.
