The menace of terrorism and extremism is on the verge of elimination as law enforcement agencies have apprehended about 122 potential suicide bombers so far. Caretaker Minister for Interior Lieutenant General Hamid Nawaz Khan (Retd) said on Saturday while talking to a private television channel (Dawn News).
"We have apprehended a large number of potential suicide bombers. At this time we have over 60 people, if BLA elements are included, the figure goes to 122," he added. He said a large number of such people have been apprehended and they are under investigation, hoping that this number would further increase.
Hamid Nawaz said with these arrests, law enforcement agencies have been able to get hold of a big quantity of explosives and such equipment, which these people were using. So, there remained no chance or minimum for the occurrence of suicide bombings in future, he added.
To a question about involvement of foreign elements in the incidents of terrorism in the country, he said "there can be a foreign hand in it as without involvement of these elements, this type of activity cannot be sustained."
