Flourmill owner, manager convicted during drive against extortion

Under a campaign launched here against those involved in over-charging for "Atta and Roti", DDO (R) Sadar Muhammad Yaqub Khan arrested a flourmill owner and manager, and awarded them with a fine of Rs 50,000 and one month imprisonment each.
According to the DDO (R), on a complaint filed by one Shaukat Ali owner of Zam Zam Karyana Store Fatehabad, a raid was conducted on Nadeem Flour Mills, Jaranwala road. The millowner Mian Arif Iftekhar and Manager Sarfraz Ahmed were awarded the said punishment after having been found guilty of selling a consignment of 50 bags of 20 kilogram Atta at the rate of Rs 310 per bag instead of fixed ex-mill rate of Rs 275 per bag.
Meanwhile, DDO (R) City Mehmud Aslam Wazir has fined 10 hotel owners in different areas of the City with a fine of Rs 44,000 for selling under-weight Roti. During the raids launched here on the directive of DCO Major Azam Suleman Khan (retd), the DDO (R) imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each upon Zeeshan Ahmad, owner of Zafar Hotel Railway Station Chowk; Ali Akbar owner of Ashraf Hotel.
Tariq Iqbal, owner of Hazara Hotel, Canal Colony. Waseem, owner of Pakistan Hotel, Chiniot Bazar. Muhammad Ramzan, owner of Mian Hotel; Muhammad Arshad of Ismail Hotel Aminpur Bazar and Manan Ahmad, owner of Food Centre Jhang Bazar.
While fine of Rs 3,000 each was imposed upon Muhammad Ashraf owner of Amjad Hotel Circular Road, Ahmad Khan of Iqbal Hotel and Syed Gulzar of Jafri Broast Chiniot Bazar. The DDO (R) City has warned the hotel owners to sell Roti at fixed price of Rs three ensuring that its weight was not less than 100 grams, failing which they would not escape penal action.
