President Pervez Musharraf has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to look into the complaints of edible oil industries against the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Federal Excise (Enforcement), Karachi, it was learnt on Friday.
According to details, the directives have been issued by Presidents Secretariat, asking FBR Chairman Abdullah Yousuf to investigate the complaints against the collectorate as per rules and policy under intimation to the complainants.
Several edible oil industries have requested the President to establish a committee to investigate into the alleged corruption in the Sales Tax Collectorate. In their complaint, the industries demanded action against the officials of the Sales Tax Collectorate and Federal Excise (Enforcement), Karachi. However, industries, including Dalda Food (Pvt) Limited, A & B Oil Industries (Pvt) Limited, Western Oil Industries, Adeel Hamza Oil Industries, Abdullah Oil Industries, etc, accused taxmen of the Refund Collectorate of demanding bribe for the clearance of their refunds.
They also alleged the higher-ups of the Refund Collectorate were patronising sub-ordinate staff. Meanwhile, Captain Tariq Subhan, Director, A & B Oil Industries (Pvt) Limited lauded the President's directive to the FBR Chairman.
