01 Mar, 2008

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) will have no objection to changing the name of NWFP as 'Pakhtoonkhawa' as the party wants to settle this 60 years old issue in an amicable manner. Central Deputy Secretary Information PPP Senator Sajjad Bukhari said this while addressing a press conference at Peoples Media Centre here on Friday.
He, however, said that provincial organisation of PPP-NWFP has given a proposal to hold referendum on the issue which is also a viable proposal to solve the matter. Bukhari who is also member of central executive committee of PPP said that PPP believes in complete independence of judiciary and wants to use all out resources for this purpose.
It was due to this issue that PPP's chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto what he said was hanged in a false case, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari also faced years of imprisonment due to the same problem, he said.
"Had there been an independent judiciary, Asif Ali Zardari would not have faced more than eleven and a half years imprisonment without any reason", he said. Independence of judiciary is top priority of PPP so that no one could usurp the rights of others on political and other issues, he said. "PPP wants to restore the deposed judges at the earliest through parliament on permanent basis as this is an important issue", he observed.
Sajjad Bukhari said that PPP wants to establish governments in the centre and the provinces through national consensus to lead the country towards new horizons of development and prosperity by making joint efforts.
