A Chinese court has ordered a local company to compensate Motorola Inc for violating its patent rights concerning a two-way radio, the US telecom giant said in a statement Monday. Motorola brought the lawsuit against a Chinese company known as Guangzhou Weierwei Electronic Science and Technology Co Ltd for infringing on Motorola's design patent for radio technology, the statement said.
The case was heard by a Beijing intermediate court with the ruling issued in December last year, it said. "Weierwei was therefore ordered to cease the manufacture and sales of VEV 3188 two-way radios and to financially compensate Motorola," the statement said, referring to the radio model. No details of the financial payout were announced and company officials were not immediately available for comment.
"We are very pleased that the First Intermediate People's Court of Beijing recognises the importance of intellectual property protection and has ruled in Motorola's favour," said Jonathan P. Meyer, Motorola senior vice president for intellectual property law.
