Sharp falls, rises witnessed on grain market

Rice prices were sharply higher on the grain market on Monday due to strong demand by the abroad, dealers said. On the rice sector, Irri-9 Sindh was down by Rs 100 to Rs 3500-3600, Irri-6 Sindh fell Rs 150 to Rs 2525-2550, Basmati/D-98 Shahdadkot low type lost Rs 400 to Rs 4500 and better type was lower by Rs 300 to Rs 4700.
Basmati Bagrjee low type lost Rs 200 to Rs 4500 and good type was down by Rs 300 to Rs 4700. Super Basmati Sindh, inferior type was sharply down by Rs 300 to Rs 5500 and superior gained Rs 400 to Rs 5800 and Basmati (broken rice) good type rose by Rs 400 to Rs 3600 while low type did not show any change at Rs 2800, they said.
On the cereals side makai low variety was up by Rs 75 to Rs 1775 and better type plus Rs 25 to Rs 1800, Juwar low quality was down by Rs 50 to Rs 1500 while the good type maintained its weekend level at Rs 1600, they said. On the grams side, beetle 50x50 was sharply lower by Rs 635 to Rs 3275-3375, while the other items did not move any side in process of trading, dealers said.
