Former vice-chairman Pakistan Bar Council, Ali Ahmed Kurd advocate has been released from house arrest after completion of his detention period on Tuesday evening, Balochistan Home Secretary Furqan Bahadur told APP. The home secretary said that Kurd was detained under Maintenance of Public Order-1960, which was extended later. His detention period is over.
He is now free after completion of period of the last detention order and no fresh order has been issued in this regard, the home secretary said. Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta Syed Akbar Araien told APP that police personnel deputed at the residence of Ali Ahmed Kurd have been called back as the detention period has been completed.
Talking to journalists outside his residence after four months of detention and house arrest, Ali Ahmed Kurd reiterated his claim that lawyers would continue their struggle for supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law and independence of judiciary in the country. Lawyers will give the judiciary the status as it deserves being an important pillar of the state, he said, adding that lawyers will not appear before the judges who have taken oath under PCO on November 3 last.
He said "Bar associations and bar councils have given time to the new government for reinstatement of the deposed judges. If the new government fails to reinstate the deposed judges then the lawyers along with civil society will come out on the roads. In this regard no hurdle will be tolerated."
