Minister takes notice of manhole-death incidences

Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Mian Shafqat Ali took serious notice of manhole-death incidences ordered stringent action against persons accountable for the negligence. The minister showed deep concern over the accidents of children's deaths by falling into open manholes in the area of Green Town and China Scheme Gujjar Pura.
He also ordered the MD, Wasa, Lahore, and high officials of Public Health Engineering Department to cover all lidless manholes within three days. He said that he himself would visit the city in three days to review the situation. His directives came in a high level meeting of the Wasa and PHE officials, which he was presiding over today.
Further, Ali directed to submit details of all manholes to ascertain whether they pertain to Wasa or PHE Department within two days. He asked all the SDOs of Wasa and PHE to visit their concerned areas instead of sitting idle in their offices and submit a report to their concerned officers on daily basis about the covered and uncovered manholes.
