Former Punjab minister passes away

Former Punjab Education and Finance Minister Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain died of cancer at a private hospital here on Wednesday morning. He was 75. Later, he was buried in his ancestral graveyard at Sahiwal. Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain, a prominent Muslim Leaguer and a popular figure of Sahiwal district, was Finance and Education Minister in Nawaz Sharif government in 1985.
He had the credit of introducing strict merit system for admission to the government educational institutions and ending quotas reserved for the governor, chief minister, ministers etc in Punjab. He was a man of great integrity who never compromised on principles.
He left behind five daughters and hundreds of admirers. Federal Secretary, Economic Affairs Division, Malik Akram, is his son-in-law. His Qul will be held on Thursday at 3 pm at 43-Sir Sayed Road, Sahiwal.
