A High Court division bench has ordered the chief election commissioner of Pakistan to rethink the NA-116 election result in Narowal. The bench remanded the matter to the commission following a petition by Danyal Aziz who was a Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam candidate.
The petitioner claimed that there were lots of disturbances in more than 30 polling stations by supporters of winning candidate Tariq Anees. He claimed that even one of his supporters died in the election chaos and he himself also suffered injuries. He also claimed that his opponent had removed ballot boxes from the 30 polling stations.
He said he had forwarded an application to the district returning officer in Narowal. He said the commission without considering his application announced independent candidate Chaudhry Mohammad Tariq Anees the winner. Another bench made up of Justices Mian Najam-uz-Zaman and Maulvi Anwarul Haq ordered candidate for PP-82 Jhang Mohammad Azam Chela to appear on March 12.
Chela claimed his opponents had rigged the election. The bench on February 16 stopped the commission to announce the final result of this Punjab Assembly seat.
