11 Mar, 2008

Former Justice Fakharuddin G Ebrahim has warned that the constitution will be useless if judiciary is not freed as the judiciary is the biggest protector of the constitution. Talking to a private TV, he said that media and lawyers community are playing an active role for the restoration of judiciary.
He described the joint decision of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari about the restoration and liberation of judiciary as right. He said that earlier, he had met Mian Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari and told them that the reinstatement of deposed judges is possible through an executive order.
"Whatever the ex-chief of army staff had done was unconstitutional and unmoral", he said. He said that a method is mentioned in the constitution to depose a judge. He said an individual cannot amend the constitution.
He said that like other people, President Musharraf has committed many mistakes. He stressed the need of forgetting the past mistakes and starting a legal and constitutional period. He was of the view that the two mainstream political parties which have been elected and emerged should work jointly.
