The South Asia Media School is first institution in the region of south Asia providing learning opportunities of professional skill regarding radio and television.
"It is the basic aim of the South Asian Free Media Association (Safma) to produce professionally sound people to fulfil the rapidly increasing needs in the realm of the electronic media, especially radio and television," Secretary General South Asian Free Media Association Imtiaz Alam said in his speech on Monday.
He told participants of an eight-week training course on television and radio organised by South Asian Media School here on Monday. In the second course 30 students' from the south Asian countries participated in the training and prominent personalities of the national and international experts of the media delivered special lectures on the various topics. He said comprehensive lectures on reporting, editing, investigating reporting, on the dimensional points of views were also delivered.
"It is the responsibility of the Safma to provide proper training to the new comers in the field of journalism. Safma has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the training of cameramen, photographers, reporters, editing," he added. He said the post-graduated and graduated diplomas and short courses were also under consideration. He said students should prepare themselves according the professional needs of the hours to compete the changing challenges of the world of journalism.
Regarding the selection criteria of training he said that students must have the Master degree in Mass Communication or journalism or six months to one-year work experience either on TV or radio. About the fee structure, he said successful candidate would have to pay 500 dollar and the South Asian Free Media Association would subsidise all other expenses. Columnist Munno Bhai, Muniza Hashmi, Saleema Hashmi, Chaudhry Khalid, Anjum Rashid and Khalid Farooqi gave training certificates to the successful candidates.
