E&T department collects Rs 6384.283 million in seven months

Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has collected an amount of Rs 6384.283 million during the first seven months of financial year 2007-08. Against the proportionate target of Rs 6320.298 million fixed for the period under the heads of Infrastructure Cess, Motor Vehicle Tax, Provincial Excise Duty, Professional Tax, Cotton Fee and Hotel Tax.
This was stated by E&T Sindh Director General Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui. He was briefing the monthly review meeting held under the chairmanship of E&T Department Secretary Muhammad Naseer Jamali on the directives of E&T Sindh Minister Dr Abdul Karim Mehar.
According to the available figures, amount collected under Infrastructure Cess was Rs 3574.151 million, Motor Vehicle Tax Rs 1377.663 million, Provincial Excise Duty Rs 1068.674 million, Professional Tax Rs 140.357 million, Cotton Fee Rs 102.468 million and Hotel Tax Rs 120.790 million.
Collection of duties and taxes during the corresponding period of financial year 2006-07 under these heads of duties and taxes was Rs 5579.836 million. It shows that the Department has collected Rs 804.447 million or 13 percent more than the previous year.
He said that a huge amount of Rs 945.502 million has been deposited in the shape of Bank Guarantee upto February 2008, due to the order of High Court of Sindh, therefore, the total amount collected under the above heads as well as deposited in Bank Guarantee comes to Rs 7329.785 million.
Revenue target allocated to E&T Department for the year 2007-08 is Rs 9480.450 million and the trend of collection shows that the target will not only be achieved but also exceeded. It was further stated that collection of Property Tax throughout Sindh during the period stood at Rs 954.823 million and Entertainment Duty Rs 14.521 million. Both of these taxes though devolved to City District Government are still being collected by E&T Department.-PR
