'Mills reluctant to buy sugarcane variety Indian 238'

The Kisan Board Pakistan has accused sugar mills of being reluctant to buy sugarcane variety Indian-238 and delaying payments to farmers. Board Central President, Sardar Zafar said on Monday that Federal Agriculture Minister, Prince Isa Khan and Cane Commissioner Inayat Ullah must tackle the problem.
He said millers were making a cut of 35 to 40 percent and farmers received Rs 35 per maund, instead of Rs 60. He warned that his board would stage demonstrations outside all sugar mills on March 15.
